Guru Nanak's Udasis
The Disappearance
After disappearing in the River Bein and reappearing three days later, Guru Nanak declared: "There is no Hindu, there is no Mussulman." He undertook four great journeys (udasis) — to the east, south, north, and west.
The Four Journeys
He traveled to Assam, Bengal, Sri Lanka, Tibet, Kashmir, Mecca, and Baghdad. At Mecca, he slept with his feet toward the Kaaba, and when challenged, asked the qazi to point where God is not.
The Three Pillars
Guru Nanak taught three pillars of Sikhism: Naam Japna (remembering God's name), Kirat Karo (honest labor), and Vand Chhako (sharing with others).
