The Princess's Condition
Kamalavalli, daughter of the Chola king of Uraiyur, refused every bridegroom presented to her. Her heart had crossed the river to Srirangam — to Ranganatha himself.
A Bridegroom Crosses the River
And Ranganatha came — as a young man in royal dress, right up to the palace gates of Uraiyur. The bride-choice was held, the gift was made, and the wedding was celebrated in the king's own court. Kamalavalli became Kamalavalli Nachiyar — enshrined beside him with honours that put her first: her sanctum faces the entrance, following the Nachiyar Koil custom, because it was HER town that received him.
