Imoinu Imā is the household goddess of the Meitei people — every Meitei home has a domestic shrine (Sanamahi corner) where she is worshipped alongside Sanamahi. She is the giver of prosperity, fertility, and grain.
Imoinu is worshipped in the southwestern corner of every Meitei home — the Phiral (sacred corner) — alongside Sanamahi in the northeastern corner. The pair represent the balance of masculine (Sanamahi) and feminine (Imoinu) household energies. The Imoinu Iratpa festival is an all-family affair in which rice is offered and the wealth of the home is inventoried and blessed.
