Vaishno Devi Temple — The Call of the Goddess
The Triadic Pindis
A sacred cave shrine at 5,200 feet where the Goddess is worshipped in the form of three natural rock formations (pindis) representing Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati. The 13-km pilgrimage from Katra is undertaken by millions annually.
The Bulawa
The shrine is believed to grant only those pilgrims whom the Goddess herself calls — "Bulawa" — making the journey both a physical and spiritual summons. Devotees often report feeling an inexplicable pull to visit, which they interpret as the Goddess's call.
Historical Records
References appear in the Mahabharata and Puranas to the Trikuta shrine. Nineteenth-century land grants from Maharaja Gulab Singh are recorded in Dogri and Persian, showing continuous patronage.
