SubhadrÄ (SubhadrÄ DevÄ«) occupies the central position in the Puri JagannÄth trinity, flanked by Balabhadra (her elder brother, to her right) and JagannÄth (Krishna, her younger brother, to her left). In the daily darÅan at Puri, she is the yellow-faced, smaller deity carved from the same sacred neem wood (dÄru).
In Vaishnava theology she is often identified with YogamÄyÄ ā the primal shakti who enables Krishna's lÄ«lÄ. She is the DevÄ« alongside the two brothers, making the JagannÄth temple a rare three-deity complex that is simultaneously Vaishnava AND Shakta.
During the annual Ratha YÄtrÄ (JuneāJuly), SubhadrÄ rides her own chariot Darpadaįø·ana ("Destroyer of Pride"), painted red and black with golden accents. Her chariot has 12 wheels and is 44 feet tall. The yatra proceeds from the Puri temple to the Gundicha Temple, a distance of 3 km, and returns after 9 days.
