Shyama Shastri was unique among the Carnatic trinity because he:
- Served as priest at Kamakshi Amman temple his entire life
- Composed exclusively for the goddess Kamakshi
- Wrote in Sanskrit, Telugu, and Tamil
- Never left Kanchipuram to compose
His Connection to Kamakshi
Shyama Shastri had a vision of the goddess who ordered him to compose in her praise. From then on, almost all his kritis are about Kamakshi.
