1. Bihar Circuit (Most Important)
- Bodh Gaya: Where Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree (Ficus religiosa). The Mahabodhi Temple complex includes the 50m Mahabodhi Temple and the Vajrasana (Diamond Throne).
- Nalanda: World's oldest university (427-1197 CE). 10,000 students studied Buddhism, logic, grammar, medicine.
- Rajgir: First Buddhist Council held here. Buddha gave teachings to King Bimbisara.
2. Uttar Pradesh Circuit
- Sarnath: Dhamek Stupa marks where Buddha gave first sermon. Mulagandhakuti vihara site.
- Kushinagar: Location of Buddha's death and Mahaparinirvana. Reclining Buddha statue 6m long.
3. Sacred Trees and Monuments
- Bodhi Tree at Bodh Gaya: Direct descendant of original tree (4th generation)
- Ashoka Pillars: 40+ pillars installed across India, many with Buddhist edicts
