Story
ÅrÄ« Caitanya MahÄprabhu (1486ā1534 CE) was born in Nabadwip (West Bengal) ā the central town of the Bengali Bhakti movement. In GauįøÄ«ya theology, Caitanya IS Krishna himself, returned to earth to teach the nÄma-saį¹ kÄ«rtana (singing Krishna's name). His saį¹ kÄ«rtana-movement transformed Bengali culture and is the spiritual ancestor of ISKCON globally. His birthplace (MÄyÄpur, across the Ganges from Nabadwip) is now an ISKCON world-center; the CandranÄtha-dvÄ«pa temple in Nabadwip is the original Caitanya site. The annual Dola PÅ«rį¹imÄ / Gaura PÅ«rį¹imÄ (his birth-tithi) draws a million pilgrims.
