Chitrakoot is the sacred hill where Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana spent eleven and a half years of their fourteen-year exile. The Mandakini river flows here; every rock, cave, and grove carries a Rāmāyaṇa association. Chitrakoot is the most sacred Rama-related site other than Ayodhya itself.
