Location
- Place: Guruvayur, Thrissur, Kerala (10.5947°N, 76.0403°E)
Story & Significance
Guruvāyūr is Kerala's most-visited Vishnu pilgrimage — Bhū-Loka Vaikuṇṭha ("earth's Vaikuntha"). The 4-ft idol is of rare Pātālañjana stone. Temple rules are strict: men must be bare-chested (dhotī only), women in traditional Kerala mundu. Non-Hindus not permitted. The Ekādaśī darshan draws 100,000+; Krishna's tulabharam (weighing-offering) has been performed by poets, scientists, and cricketers. The 16th-c. poet Melpattūr Nārāyaṇa Bhaṭṭātiri composed the Nārāyaṇīyam here.
Worship & Festival
Daily aarati (dawn + dusk); abhisheka; flower and coconut offerings; evening deepa-dhyana. Annual festival features procession, special darshan, distribution of prasadam, and gathering of community.
