Story
Anegundi (across the Tungabhadra from Hampi) is identified with the Ramayana kingdom of Kishkindha — the monkey kingdom of Sugrīva and Hanuman. The area preserves multiple Ramayana geographic features: the Ṛṣyamūka Parvata (where Sugrīva sheltered from Vālī), Pampa Saras (lake where Rāma met Śabarī), the rock from which Hanuman leapt to Lanka. Archaeologically, Anegundi was inhabited from the Iron Age and continues as a living village with the descendants of the Kiṣkindhā Rāj-family.
