Story & Significance

Kaliyugavaradan — literally "the boon-giver of the Kali-yuga" — is the principal iṣṭa-devī of Vellore's Tamil Nadu interiors. The gold-plated temple at the 16th-c. Vellore Fort, carved from Krishnadevarāya-era sandstone (Vijayanagara), is dedicated to Viṣṇu as the active intervener in the degenerate age. Vishnu here has 5 āyudhas (weapons) arrayed prominently. Daily deepa-dhanam (lamp-offering) draws 10,000+.

Daily aarati (dawn + dusk); abhisheka; flower and coconut offerings; evening deepa-dhyana. Annual festival features procession, special darshan, distribution of prasadam, and gathering of community.
