Sacred Narrative
Lakṣmī (goddess of wealth) and Kubera (god of wealth/treasurer of gods) are jointly venerated in Hindu homes, especially during Dhanteras (Kārtika Kṛṣṇa Trayodaśī, 2 days before Diwālī). Pilgrims: rare — because Lakṣmī-Kubera pūjā is primarily a household rite. Every Hindu home conducts Lakṣmī-Kubera pūjā on Dhanteras: the house is cleaned, new cooking vessels are bought, lamps are lit through the night, and gold/silver is displayed. This household-centric worship illustrates that Indian religion is primarily domestic (kula) rather than institutional.
