Story & Significance
Liṅgarāja Temple (11th c., Kesari dynasty) is the largest and most important Shaiva shrine of Odisha, and of the 3 principal liṅgas in India (with Kāśi Viśvanātha and Somnātha). The 55-m curvilinear śikhara is the tallest of any Odisha temple. The liṅga is a svayam-bhū natural rock-form, draped in water from the Bindu-sāgar tank (believed to contain water from every sacred river in India). The shrine complex houses ~150 subsidiary deity-shrines.
Worship & Festival
Daily aarati (dawn + dusk); abhisheka; flower and coconut offerings; evening deepa-dhyana. Annual festival features procession, special darshan, distribution of prasadam, and gathering of community.
