Mahalakshmi of Kolhapur

Ambabai (Marathi: अंबाबाई) — known in Sanskrit texts as Shri Mahalakshmi of Karvir — is the presiding goddess of Kolhapur and one of the three great Maharashtrian Devis, paired with Tuljabhavani of Tuljapur and Renuka of Mahur. In the Devi Bhagavata Purana and the Skanda Purana's Karveera Mahatmya she is counted as a Shakti Peetha — the site where Sati's three eyes (trinetra) are said to have fallen — and in Marathi household tradition she is Karvir Nivasini, "She who dwells at
