Sacred Narrative
Maṅgēśa of Priol village is the principal Shaiva shrine of Goa's Hindu community. Original shrine at Kushasthali (Cortalim) was destroyed by Portuguese 1560; relocated to Mangeshi 1665. Maṅgēśa is the kul-devatā of many Goan Saraswat Brahmin families — including the musician Lata Mangeshkar's. Annual Zatra in Māgha (January) fills the village for 5 days.
