Story & Significance
Keśava Deva temple at Mathura is built over Krishna's birthplace — in the prison cell of Kaṁsa where Devakī gave birth. The current temple complex (also housing the Shāhī Īdgāh Masjid next to it, built by Aurangzeb in 1660 over the older temple) is a sensitive interfaith site. Worship continues. Janmāṣṭamī (August–September) draws 1 lakh+ pilgrims for midnight darshan of the moment of Krishna's birth.
Worship & Festival
Daily aarati (dawn + dusk); abhisheka; flower and coconut offerings; evening deepa-dhyana. Annual festival features procession, special darshan, distribution of prasadam, and gathering of community.
