Mayureshwar (Mayūreśvara) is the svayambhū (self-manifested) Ganesha enshrined at Morgaon on the banks of the Karha river in Pune district, Maharashtra. His name means "Lord of the Peacock" — commemorating the unique tradition that at this site Ganesha rode a peacock into battle against the asura Sindhu, rather than his usual mouse. Morgaon is the first and most important of the eight Ashtavinayak pilgrimage shrines of Maharashtra, and the pilgrimage traditionally begins and ends here. T
