Muruḍēśvar — where Rāvaṇa stopped carrying the Ātma-liṅga (given by Shiva to Rāvaṇa). The story parallels the Gokarṇa tradition. The 249-foot statue of Shiva (world's 2nd tallest after Gangaikonda) was completed 2008 atop the coastal hill. The 20-story rājagopura offers sea-view darshan. Annual Mahā Śivarātri draws half a million.
