Peddamma — the "great mother" of the village
Hindu / Shakta / Telangana
Peddamma ("big mother") is the presiding village goddess across Telangana. Thousands of Peddamma shrines dot the state. The Manikonda Peddamma temple on Hyderabad outskirts has become a major urban pilgrimage. Annual Bonālu festival (July–August) is the state's biggest folk-festival — women carry decorated pots (bonam) with cooked rice on their heads, walking to the temple. The offering is specifically for Peddamma and her sisters.
India's sacred landscape embraces all faith-traditions — Hindu, Jain, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Sikh, Jewish, Zoroastrian, tribal, regional-folk — each with its own cosmology. This entry honors Hindu on its own terms.
