Tārā Tāriṇī are twin sister-goddesses at Kumari hill, Ganjam, Odisha — considered one of the 4 Ādi Śakti Pīṭhas (where Satī's breasts fell). Pilgrims climb 999 steps to the hilltop shrine.
Tārā Tāriṇī are the only twin-goddess Śakti Pīṭha in India. The four Ādi Śakti Pīṭhas are: Vimalā (Puri — feet), Tārā Tāriṇī (Ganjam — breasts), Kāmākhyā (Assam — womb), Dakṣiṇa Kāḷī (Kalighat — right toe). Pilgrims make a vow: if the wish is granted, they will return with a red dupatta (breast-cloth) as offering — the goddess's shrine is hung with thousands of these.
