Tirunakkara Mahādeva Temple of Kottayam is the principal Shiva shrine of central Kerala. 9th-c. foundation. The Tirunakkara kettukazhcha festival (March) features giant bamboo-and-cloth effigies of Bhīma, Hanumān, and other heroes carried in procession.
