📖 Stories

  • The Celestial Marriage of Murugan and Devayānī
After defeating the Asura Sūrapadman, Murugan rested on the hill at Tirupparankundram. Indra, king of the gods, offered his daughter Devayānī in marriage. The wedding was celebrated with divine pomp — the gods, sages, and celestial beings gathered to witness the ceremony. This celestial marriage (Divya Kalyāṇam) is celebrated annually during Vaikāśi Viśākam.

  • The Rock-Cut Cave Temple
The temple is carved directly into the granite hillside — one of the finest examples of Pandyan rock-cut architecture. The main sanctum houses Murugan with his consorts Valli and Devayānī. The ceiling of the cave is adorned with carved figures of Shiva, Vishnu, and other deities, showing the syncretic nature of early Tamil religion.
