BhadrÄchalam ā Rama in the forest by the Godavari
Hindu / Vaishnava
BhadrÄchalam is on the Godavari where Rama is said to have rested during his forest exile. The temple was built by the Gol-konda Sultan-era tehsildar Kancherla Gopanna (Bhakta RamadÄs) in the 17th c., using temple revenues to build it ā for which he was imprisoned by Aurangzeb; Rama himself is said to have paid his ransom. Bhakta RamadÄs's Telugu RÄma-kÄ«rtanas are performed here as annual tradition.
