Dongargarh
A Bhairav shrine, and an entry that needs work
Dongargarh, in Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh, is known in this corpus for a temple of Bhairav connected with the story of Satī. That is close to everything that can honestly be said from the material available here, and I would rather record that plainly than fill the page with material imported from other entries in the same district.
The association with Sati is not as odd as it first sounds. Bhairav - a fierce form of Shiva - belongs naturally to the frame of Sati's death and its aftermath, and shrines of this class often stand in the landscape of a story rather than at a site described in the story itself. Bhairav also functions in this region as a protector against epidemic and malignant influence, which is a common and very practical village-level assignment for a deity of his type. But I cannot tell from the frontmatter whether this particular shrine is a pīṭha claim, a Bhairav temple with a Sati legend attached, or a goddess shrine that the entry has misfiled - and the frontmatter's gender: female sits oddly beside a deity the same file calls Bhairav. That is probably an error, though I have left the field as found rather than rewriting a value on a guess.
The region around Dongargarh is culturally part of the Bastar-Raipur hinterland, and the religious landscape there is one of village goddesses, Danteshwari to the south, and local Bhairav and ancestor shrines. This site belongs in that map. A guardian with access to the Rajnandgaon gazetteer could place it properly in a few minutes, and until then this entry should be treated as a stub with a name attached.
Sources and what is still unverified
The Rajnandgaon gazetteer is the obvious first stop and is cited above as the work to consult rather than as a work consulted. What is entirely open: the deity's actual name and form at this shrine; whether the Sati association is a founding legend or a later attachment; the image, and whether it is aniconic; the festival calendar; and the shrine's administration. I have asserted no date, dynasty or genealogy, because the file supports none.
