Dwijing — Bodo goddess of the Aie River
Hindu / Bathou / Bodo
The Bodo (~1.5 million) of Assam follow Bathou religion — centered on Bathou-brai (the Supreme Being, symbolized by the sacred Sijou plant). The Aie river-goddess (also called Dwijing) is worshipped along the river. The annual Bwisagu festival (April) marks the Bodo new year. The Bodos revived institutional Bathou religion from 1993 onward.
