Mahābaleśvara in the Sahyādri range is unique: 5 rivers rise here — Krishna, Kōyanā, Venā, Gāyatrī, Sāvitrī. Hence "Mahabaleshwar" (great-strength-lord). The Panchgaṅgā Mandir shows all 5 rivers emerging from a cow-mouth spout. The temple is 13th-c. Yādava-era. Pilgrims bathe in all 5 sources.
