Buddhist / Vajrayana / Gelug - Thiksey, Leh, Ladakh (34.05°N, 77.6667°E) Thiksey Monastery (15th c., Gelug) — a Ladakhi monastery modeled on Lhasa's Potala Palace. Houses the 15-meter Maitreya Buddha statue (the Future Buddha) — the second-largest Maitreya in Ladakh. The morning puja at 6 AM with conches and cymbals draws tourists and pilgrims alike.
