Vindhyavasini
Vindhyavāsinī at Vindhyachal (Mirzapur district, UP) is one of India's most ancient Shakti shrines, famously identified with Yogamāyā — the goddess born to replace the infant Krishna in Nanda-Yaśodā's cradle, who escaped Kaṃsa's slaughter and took residence in the Vindhya hills.
The Vindhya-kshetra Parikrama links three Vindhyachal temples:
- Vindhyavāsinī (main; the rescued infant-replacement)
- Aṣṭabhuja Devī (8-armed form)
- Kālī Khoh (cave-Kali)
Devotees must walk all three in one continuous circumambulation (~50 km) for the full pilgrimage merit. The Ganga flows by the complex; the Vindhyavāsinī Stotra attributed to Krishna in the Harivaṃśa is one of the oldest Shakta hymns, celebrating her escape from Kaṃsa.
