Hindu / Shakta
Talakāverī — the source of the Kāverī river in the Brahmagiri range of Kodagu (Coorg). The sacred spring is 5,600 ft altitude. On the Tulā saṅkramaṇa (October 17/18), the goddess Kāverī is said to emerge from the spring — the "Tīrtodbhava" — drawing half a million pilgrims. The river flows 805 km through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, ending at Poompuhar on the Bay of Bengal. Tamil tradition calls Kāverī "Ponni" (golden).
