Basara on the Godavari is one of only 2 Sarasvatī temples in India (the other: Pushkar). Tradition: Sage Vyāsa performed tapas here; the akṣarābhyāsam (first-writing) ritual for children is the key pilgrimage. Children as young as 3 have their first alphabets inscribed here.
