The Baby Under the Tulsi
Godadevi, later known as Andal, was found as a baby under a tulsi plant in Srivilliputhur. Growing up, she fell in love with Krishna and composed passionate devotional poetry imagining herself as his bride.
The Tiruppavai
In the Tiruppavai, she wakes her friends to worship Krishna. In the Nacciyar Tirumoli, she declares she will marry only Krishna or die. Her mystical marriage to Ranganatha at Srirangam is celebrated annually.
The Lesson
Divine love (prema-bhakti) transcends social convention; the soul's yearning for God is the highest form of devotion.
