Hayagrīva is a horse-headed avatar of Lord Viṣṇu, revered as the god of knowledge and wisdom. According to legend, he recovered the stolen Vedas from the demons Madhu and Kaiṭabha, restoring sacred knowledge to the world. He is particularly venerated in South India, where he is the presiding deity of learning and is often depicted seated in a yogic posture, holding scriptures.
