📖 Stories
Mohini and the Distribution of Amṛta
During the Churning of the Ocean (Samudra Manthan), the devas and asuras churned the cosmic ocean to obtain amṛta (nectar of immortality). When the amṛta appeared, Vishnu assumed the form of Mohini — an enchantress of incomparable beauty — to distribute it. At Tirumogur, Mohini distributed the amṛta to the devas, ensuring their victory over the asuras. The temple enshrines Vishnu as Kāḷa-mēga-peruṃāḷ — the dark cloud lord — referencing Mohini's divine form.

The Legend of the Sacred Tank
The temple tank — Divya Tīrtham — is believed to contain the waters of the amṛta. Pilgrims bathe in the tank before entering the temple, believing it cleanses them of sins and prepares them for mokṣa. The tank is particularly sacred during Vaikuṇṭha Ekādaśī.
